Choosing Siding Colors

Siding color matters because if you are putting siding on your house, it’s going to take up most of the visual space of your exterior. Siding comes in so many colors, though; it can be difficult to pin down exactly the one you want.

If you’re struggling to decide on a color, ask yourself these questions:

  1. What style house do you have? Completely stumped by all the color options? That’s not as uncommon as you might think! Take cues from the house itself. What style is it—Mediterranean, Ranch-style, Spanish-style? A lot of times, that can point you in the direction of a color palette from which to choose.
You might also look at the other elements of your house: what color is your roof? Do you have plants against the siding? What color is your garage door? This can help you narrow it down even further.
  2. What will look good next to your neighbors? You probably don’t want to copy your neighbor’s style exactly, but the color of their homes may help you make a decision for your own. Complementary or corresponding colors could get you a color area on which you can zone in and choose from.
  3. Will I like it all year long? The danger in going with something incredibly bold is that you might find it wears off pretty quickly. Think carefully about your choice and make sure whatever you choose is something you’ll be happy with for a long time.

Narrowing down your choices by asking questions will help you get to the color you want easily.
